If we are talking about a football team working together to score a victory, then hurray for team effort! If we are talking about an office staff putting aside their petty differences and working together to make their company successful, then kudos to the team! And, if we’re talking about a group of law officers such as local and state police and DEA officials all working together to stop the flow of drug traffic through our communities, then, let’s hear it for the team!
However, in this story, the team effort is on the part of the drug traffickers themselves, so it is not worth cheering. Police over in Rutland say that is just what they are finding.
They busted three people on Monday December 5, 2011 in a huge cocaine and heroin operation. The police are still working on the investigation which so far just includes two people under the aliases of “Uncle Vinny” and “Nephew.” Sergeant Kevin Sly of the Rutland Police said that they are seeing a lot of out-of-state drug dealers who go to major cities to get a large supply and then come into the area. “It's an intricate network and it will change on a weekly basis, sometimes on a daily basis, of who can supply and who can't.” He adds that, “Anytime you have someone that's transitory like that -- they are not sedentary -- it's going to be more difficult to track them, especially when they start going outside of community boundaries outside of state."
Vermont State Police Lt. Chuck Cacciatore says that, "We work hand in hand with the city. We work hand in hand with the sheriff's departments across the state and we're all seeing the same thing. We're all seeing an increase in this behavior going on."
So it’s the Law Team against the Illegal Team, and the outcome of it will either downgrade or benefit the citizens of Vermont. Let’s hope that the good guys have the better playbook.
